Democrat Carolyn Bourdeaux’s bid for the 7th Congressional District seat received an endorsement this past week from the first African-American woman to lead a major city in the south.
Former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin offered her backing of Bourdeaux in a statement released by the Georgia State University professor’s campaign. Bourdeaux will face incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall in the general election in November.
“I’m proud to endorse Carolyn Bourdeaux for Congress,” Franklin said in the statement. “We need to elect more qualified women like her to office, and I know Carolyn’s experience and ability to get things done will serve everyone in the 7th district well.”
